Called insurance and they said it'd be $100 and our rates would go up depending on coast to fix the scratches. He told me to get an estimate and call him.
Called my wife up. I told her I might be able to buff some of them out first. She tells me that she doesn't care and to do what I want. Like I'm falling for that! .... again ...
I told her we'd just buy rubbing compound and go from there. Guess I get a crash course in some auto detailing basics. Off to /r/autodetailing.

I heard that a kids face makes an awesome polish cloth, I'd try that. Then again, I'm a terrible human being so...

Yeah. I've heard that wife response too. Proceed carefully.

You'd have to keep stopping to wipe off the blood though.

I got verbal agreement to go with my plan so I think I'm good for now.

This happened to my car in December. Fucking Rumpke truck.
I was able to get most of it out with wet sanding and buffing.

My wife and I were have a discussion once, and I didn't want to say the wrong thing, so I said nothing. Then I got in trouble for not saying anything.
Good luck.

Verbal? Uh-oh. Prepare for the "I never said that" statements

The only discussion they've ever had.

You should definitely see how well you can do on your own before you take the insurance hit.
Effin' insurance companies.

Nope. YOUR plan. You are already further into the trap than you realize!

That's encouraging. I'm a little scared to start wet sanding.

But it will make her car shinier ... she likes shiny things!

I've had moderate success with this stuff getting out clear coat scratches. Looks like you are going to need something much more heavy duty though.

JUST FUCKING DAB AND SMEAR THAT SHIT

Good news is if you do it right, no more orange peel.

Interesting ...

My wife cares so little about it that I could never justify the $100 deductible to her.

I bet I still have a tube of some scratch remover when those things came on the market in the early 2000's. Worked great, until you washed the car.

I'm going to try out some rubbing compound and elbow grease and take it from there.

Unless it doesn't turn out. In which case she'll spring the trap.
![]() 08/19/2013 at 14:39 |

I really don't think it's going to turn out like that.

The best discussion is the one you're not having.
